The Mile High City

By the time February came around, I was already going on my third trip of the year. I was off to Denver with my cousins to celebrate my brother-in-law’s birthday. I was in Denver just a few months before that, back in November, but we stayed in the city. This time we rented a cabin in Breckenridge and were staying in the mountains. We were also spending the weekend skiing and snowmobiling- two things I have never done before. So it was a weekend filled with many firsts! We went skiing the morning after arriving, and since it was my first time I decided to take ski lessons. I was nervous but I really enjoyed myself. I didn’t fall all day, which was a huge accomplishment for me! I think the scariest part of skiing is the potential of not being able to stop yourself…especially on a turn too close to the edge.

The next morning when I woke up, I felt soreness in places I didn’t even know were possible. But there was really no time to think about the pain, because a new day meant a new adventure. We were off into the mountains to snowmobile.  When they were going over the instructions, it felt like we were signing away our lives. They even told us people have lost their lives on the same trail we were going on, which was a bit scary. We were able to get a private group since there were so many of us, so that made the experience better. I think I would definitely go snowmobiling again in the near future!

After a morning of adventure, we decided to go on a brewery crawl. First stop was Breckenridge Brewery.

Our second stop was Broken Compass Brewing Co.– which was dog friendly and had plenty of board games! So we spent the afternoon drinking fresh brewed beers with cute puppies and Jenga. I think my favorite thing about this brewery was the ski lifts they had as benches.

When the last day came around, we were all wishing that the trip was longer, but we were able to make the most of our last day in Denver. We drove back into the city and enjoyed one last meal together at Denver Biscuit Co. It was a great hearty meal which we deserved after all the sports we did all weekend.

Cancun for Some Vitamin Sea

A week trip to Mexico in the dead of winter was the perfect getaway. The highlight of our trip was probably the amazing food at our resort. I have gone to all inclusive resorts in the past, and the food never ever came close to the quality and presentation we saw.

Our last night in Mexico we decided to go out in downtown and visit Coco Bongo and Señor Frog. That night was quite the adventure! Transportation was not provided in the package, and we were told to avoid Ubers while in Mexico. We decided to take the city bus to and from the clubs since we were assured by the hotel that it was absolutely safe. Fortunately we had data on our cell phones so we knew when to get off the bus. Sure enough it was a great night. I made the most of it even though I wasn’t feeling well.

The weather can be hit or miss in January, so we had some beautiful days while others weren’t as warm as we wanted. Nothing beats a long walk on the beach on a sunny day with a fruity cold cocktail.

I look forward to our next tropical getaway!

A Weekend in The Big Apple

I started this year off with a trip to New York. I give props to anyone who travels back and forth from Chicago to New York, I don’t think I have ever made that trip without flight delays, thanks to LaGuardia airport…a place of disorganization and chaos even on a sunny day! I had hours of delays getting in on Thursday night, but I finally made it in a little past midnight. Friday was a gloomy day of self reflection.  My first stop was Boundless Planes to grab breakfast. I generally have an issue going to public places by myself to eat, but it wasn’t as bad as I had imagined.

Next stop was a long walk in the Financial District. Although the weather was gloomy and it drizzled all day, I was able to make the best of it…but I definitely wish I wore walking shoes for my 5 mile hike through the city!  I was able to capture some beautiful pictures that morning. It was unfortunately too foggy to see the iconic Statue of Liberty.

The day was ended by going to none other then Times Square. It had been years since I had been there and I forgot how busy it was. Lights and people everywhere. But I had to go since I was in New York!

The next morning started with brunch at Paris Cafe (I only picked this place because there was mushroom mac and cheese on the menu). We wanted to be tourists for the day so we decided to walk through the Oculus, grab cupcakes from Baked by Melissa and go to the World Trade Observatory since it was a beautiful sunny day.

That evening, we explored New York night life! The  first stop was Vnyl– they had good drinks and very awesome throwback 90s music. Our next stop was Vandal. The inside of this bar was very cool, with super modern/trendy decorations. There were a very long line to get in but we were able to sneak around the line and find a corner bar seat. I think that is the biggest issue with New York…it is way more crowded than Chicago, so the probability of standing in line to get in a bar are extremely high.

Sunday was our last day in New York, but with a late flight back to Chicago we had time enjoy the day. That morning we took a walk on Wall Street, grabbed breakfast at Black Seed. Later that day we headed over to New Jersey to visit some friends before heading back to the airport.

It was a quick weekend trip but we had a wonderful time! Can’t wait to head back to New York!

The Journey Begins

I have been wanting to start a blog for a while now. I was never sure about the specific content I wanted to blog about. I had tested out some topics that I would be interested in potentially blogging about but I was never able to pick one.  But then every time I cooked a meal or wanted to share a beauty hack, I wished I had a blog. Finally, after long thought and consideration (and words of encouragement and support from friends and family) I decided to take the leap! I love so many different things, so what better way to express myself than a lifestyle blog? I am a 28 year old pharmacist who lives in Chicago. I love to travel and explore new cities, cook and try new recipes, eat at new restaurants, consistently improve my beauty routine and so much more. Please join me while I enjoy the Windy City one day at a time, living my best life.
